Friends, we would be interested to see if you agree with us?
If you ask any everyday Aussie, what is the best country in the world? you are bound to get a biased but believable response, Australia of course (otherwise known as ‘stral-ya’).
But why? I will start with positives…….
Aussie blood runs through our veins and beats our heart. Our flag is iconic, so much so that many of us have gone to extreme lengths to get our symbols tattooed on our own flesh. We also have our own unique language ‘g’day mate, no worries, and ‘true blue’ – as well as the proud separation from the American way of spelling, replacing the ‘z’ with ‘s’. We have a competitive spirit that goes back decades, many in the sporting arena that has helped shape Australia’s belief systems.
Our triumph in the 1983 Americas cup was epic and euphoric to the point that ‘hawky’ screamed on national television ‘any boss that sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum’. Other Australian performances on a world platform have bought Australia to life; Cathy Winning the 400m, Shane bringing home the Ashes and Pat winning Wimbledon. Like Kylie – we don’t even need to mention their last names – we know who they are, they represent ‘us’. We even have animals that stop the nation and create analogies’ that no one else in the world has, ‘A heart as big as Phar lap’.
But there is one thing that we rate 5TH IN THE WORLD, that we are recognised with for all for the wrong reasons – OBESITY. For a country that ‘never throws in the towel’ and has a so called ‘fierce competitive spirit’ we need to lift our game Australia, and this is why the LOSE5 challenge was formed.
When you think about it, the blame game is easy, and to some degree it is not necessarily our fault. We are beginning to emulate America and Canada, moving towards a lazy nation – if we are not there already.
Things have changed rapidly in this country, an example;
Back in the 90’s: Child; “Mum, I want a drink of water” … Mother: “Wait until you get home” Half hour passes, Kid gets water, kid doesn’t die.
2018: Child; “Mum, I want a coke”, Mother: “Let me pull in to one of the fast food joints – two cokes please (because it works out cheaper)”.
You get my drift.
The convenience for bad health is easy, and this puts us as a nation a long way down. Our behaviours cause premature heart disease and chronic conditions. The list of issues with poor health is long enough to keep you reading for hours.
So, you are now part of ‘our’ solution – LOSE5.
It’s easy, and if I was a mathematician I would interpret it this way: 65%+ of Aussies are obese or overweight, therefore, Drop 5kg’s = less health problems for the majority… ta da!
The program we have set is not overwhelming, you can still have a life – but make some meaningful improvements along the way.
If you want to reach the top of the LOSE5 mountain, stick to each and every challenge like glue, some examples; ‘GO JUNK FOOD FREE’…. ‘GO SUGAR FREE’…. ‘GO ALCOHOL FREE’…. ‘GET MOVING’….. simple hey? Even better yet, you can form a group by selecting a Team Captain, and inviting Team Members… what more motivation do you need?
So check us out at www.lose5.com.au and keep up to date with our challenge intakes on ‘Facey’ and ‘Insta’.. and all that jazz!
Cheers for now,
Peter
